We have spent most of December going over the Advent lessons as our group studies. We have read everyday through the book of Isaiah, learning what a profit is and how he told of both the 1st and 2nd coming of Christ. We also have done a Jesse chain. Going from Adam through Jesus, seeing who Jesus has in His family through the Bible. That has been a lot of fun!
We also have done a lot of crafts, mostly Christmas gifts for the family. The children have made everyone an ornament of some kind or another. It has been a lot of fun!
But mostly we have been sick and coughing with an infection. Everyone is doing much better, but now it is almost Christmas and our time to be off school. Thank the Lord we do homeschool and that my children didn't have to get far behind having this horrible infection.
Here to help teach our children the true meaning of worship... Living for and Loving Jesus!

Busy Fun Schooling
This month has been slow going as far as written work....that doesn't mean the learning has stopped.... quite the opposite. My children having all taken quite a loving interest in baking and cooking these days. The all love making Momma's Fluffy Yogurt Pancakes, learning how to bake cup cakes and helping all around with dinners. Also we have taken this month for a lot more Bible reading, worship and family love. We had lots of visitors and changes going on. We got a new Kitty, which has become Melodey's responsibility.... along with Momma. Daddy has gone on a couple of business trips, which is new and different for us. So with that and all the people in and out this month, I decided to take it slow.
With our time off, we have gotten ready for some big things for the rest of the year. I am starting a choir for the Homeschool group and for church, so those both should be a lot of fun. We are planning on going to the pumpkin patch with the homeschool group this October. In November we have more family coming and December brings on Christmas. And you know me.... I love to spend all of Advent diving into God's word with the children. Discovering, with them, the excitement of God great gift for us.
We also are planning a geography fair in February. We have been working on the states for some time now and we are going to do a big project involving all 50 states :O) Should be a lot of fun!
I am planning a Zoo Scavenger hunt for the spring time for the Homeschool group too!
So, what are ya'll up to these days?

PACHA 2009-2010
Our Pryor Area Christian Homeschool Association has offically started doing stuff this school year. I missed Mom's night out, as my husband grandparents were here. But we have gone to our first fun activity. PACHA Ice Cream social. The children has a blast and I loved seeing everyone again. We did a lot of chatting and the kids did a lot of playing :o)
I am starting a PACHA Choir for our group. Starting in October, we will be meeting at Grace Bible Church from 1:30pm-2:30pm every Wednesday :o) I am very excited, as this has been something that has been on my heart for a while now.
I also will be doing the December activity, which will be gingerbread houses. :o)

A couple of Sickies
After writing about how wonderful the first 3 weeks, this week has started out with colds. :o( So I am glad that we started early and now don't feel so bad taking time off for this cold to run through. I tend to feel bad if the kids miss days of school work, but such is life.
As I am on my 4th year of home education, I am just now getting the idea that we are not a school at home :o) We run things differently... and that is good!
So the last 2 days we watched PBS shows, read books and cuddled under my big comforter on the couch together. :o) I am praying my children get better soon, but it nice to just have cuddle time with them.

Here are some snap shots of the last 3 weeks of fun and learning, Rouge Style!

School has begun!!!!
We were excited to start school this Monday :o) Although, I believe that life leads to education. Mark Twain once said "I never let school interfere with my education." I like that! I don't want the "school" to ever interfere with the children's education. They learn so much through life here in our home.
We started our formal learning on Monday. We started the actual worksheets. The children are having a blast.
For Melodey and Tylor I am still using Sing Spell Read and Write, which I love! Anything that involves music and learning is for this momma! Alex on the other hand is reading at such a high level for his age, I am having him read the Konos books, his own reading book and doing Write Source grammar. We also got Write Shop for all 3. I had not used it before, but after only 2 days, I love it!
We are using Saxon math, and even though it does have some "busy work," we only do as much as needed to learn the concepts. I hate "busy work!" I always have, blame that on a classroom of 36 children for 13 years! The kids really like the Saxon math, and were able to understand the concepts with little to no issues. I feel bad for Alex though, I have switched his math on him since kindergarten. We did Shiller Math, which I did NOT like at all, Everyday math, which was ok, but more of a classroom math program, and then Saxon for 2nd grade, and also now in 3rd grade. He likes it better, I like it better and we don't have the stress and tears that the other math programs were leading to.
We are doing Science though Konos, but also we got a magnet kit, bubble kit and sound kit from Delta learning. I love these little kits. They are science in a nut shell kits and are perfect for us. They are made for 1-3 kids :o)which is what we have :o)
History, Bible, Art, Music and PE are also done through Konos, which is one reason I love it! Everything that we are learning somehow connects and I love that concept.
We have a lot of field trips planned for the year, a Zoo membership that expires in July of 2010, and I am hoping to help organize some great events with our homeschool group.
We are off to a stellar year :o) Expect to see lots of pictures and hear lots of stories!
Blessings to your school year!

School Year 2009-2010
A new school year is about to begin :o)
I am very excited! I love that I am blessed to be able to teach my children at home!
My mom-in-law just came out for a week. While she was here, she listened to the children read. I was excited and nervous to find out that Alex is reading at a 7th grade level. I am so excited about how much the children are learning here at home, and nervous that I may not be keeping up on how advanced they are.
But I was lucky to have my mom-in-law come out and test their reading levels and order school stuff for us! We ordered Sing Spell stuff for Tylor and Melodey and Alex will be reading the Konos reading list for the older kids and doing a write source for his grammar and LA stuff. We are doing Saxon Math again this year, as I loved teaching with it last year. She also ordered a couple of science in a nutshell kits from Delta Science. A weather one and a bubble one. I am doing the Konos Vol. 1 for the 2nd year, and that looks so exciting.
They will be going through Orderliness, Trust, Patience, Stewardship and Honor. All those topics have a ton of social science, science, bible, reading, art and music. The whole thing should be very exciting! God is so amazing how He has laid everything down before Brook and I. It should be amazing to see how He is going to use this school year to glorify Him!!!

Summer School and Planning
This June we are starting some summer school activities a few days a week! I am hoping this will keep them up on stuff and not have to spend a lot of review time come August.
As far as planning. I have all the group school planned out for the 2009-2010 school year. I have gotten Melodey's reading, language arts and math all planned out. I also have Tylor's reading, language arts and math planned. I am waiting for Alex language arts and math curriculum to get here so I can plan out the lessons for him as well!
In the mean time we are going to have a vacation bible camp, 10 weeks of teaching children at our church. I think it will be amazing and I can't wait to see what God is going to do :o) Keep us in your prayer, please!

January 19th-23rd Plans
I decided to write my plans out :) for all to see :)
Right now were are studying Obedience in the Konos curriculum. We love this program and I can't say enough good things about it.
This week is Castles :)
Bible Verse for the week: Matthew 25:21 "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'"
The kids like that I put the Bible verse on a white board and that we repeat it all week. They are also finding it in there Bibles and underlining the verses they memorize.
We are building a medieval castle. The kids will love this one for sure :)
We are reading together Robin Hood :)
The kids each have their own Phonics and Math that we are going through after our family reading everyday.
Monday - We are comparing modern castles to Medieval castles.
Talking about who the different castle workers are.
Draw a floor plan for our castle.
Do our Martin Luther King Jr. Booklets.
Tuesday - Talk about Tapestry. Create our own tapestry for the children's room.
Wednesday - Playing Chess
Thursday - More Chess
Play Master says - like Simon says
Work on art and decorations for our Medieval feast
Friday - Make a castle out of cardboard
Make invitations for Medieval Feast
Work on Costumes and decorations for Feast
Play Chess

New Direction
School started this week with a new plan of action! I was not really enjoying all the worksheet/workbook stuff we were doing. The kids were getting board and not enjoying school. I have always enjoyed learning, so I didn't like seeing them not wanting to do school.
SO this Christmas, my mother in law got me the Konos program. We started this on Monday with a 4 day school week and a fun activity and Library time on Fridays. The children are loving this.
We are having a more intense Bible Reading time, which they all love. Alex loves reading his bible to Tylor and Melodey. Tylor is all about know all the books of the Bible and helping Alex and Melodey find their spots in the Bible. Melodey is our memory girl! She is all about memorizing God's Word.
Then we are doing the phonics and grammar through Sing Spell Read and Write, but I am letting them choose their own books to read. Alex is reading a Star Wars Comic book (like a chapter book) only in comic form. He is loving this. Tylor is going through all the Dr. Seuss books. He loves the rhyming and the silliness of the books. Melodey is still just starting to really read on her own and loves the books that come with the Grammar program.
We are using Saxton Math. I was not sure this was My program to use, but I moved them all up to where they were being challenged instead of busy work and now they are all really enjoying it. Melodey is doing the 2nd semester of 1st grade math, Tylor is doing the 2nd semester of 2nd grade math and Alex is in the middle of the 3rd grade math.
I love seeing the excitement about learning as we go on with this new style of learning. We are having a lot of family reading and movies about the subject we are studying. Right now we are doing Obedience and the kids are loving seeing how people choose to Obey God even if their rulers tell them not to.
So as we are growing together in this homeschool adventure, I am finding that I was trying to make my kids stick to an 8-3 school day, just as the public schools do. That wasn't working and all of us were stressed out about it. This is much better having the major work done between 9am and noon and in the afternoon we are having family activities that are helping reinforce the topic.
I love Homeschooling!
