After writing about how wonderful the first 3 weeks, this week has started out with colds. :o( So I am glad that we started early and now don't feel so bad taking time off for this cold to run through. I tend to feel bad if the kids miss days of school work, but such is life.
As I am on my 4th year of home education, I am just now getting the idea that we are not a school at home :o) We run things differently... and that is good!
So the last 2 days we watched PBS shows, read books and cuddled under my big comforter on the couch together. :o) I am praying my children get better soon, but it nice to just have cuddle time with them.
Here to help teach our children the true meaning of worship... Living for and Loving Jesus!

August 2009 School Pictures
He have had a great first 3 weeks of school :o) Lots of new things we are doing, including a better homeschool schedule than last year, taking my children's learning styles into better consideration vs. my own. Here are some snap shots of the last 3 weeks of fun and learning, Rouge Style!

I hope you are enjoying your children while teaching them as much as I am!

School has begun!!!!
We were excited to start school this Monday :o) Although, I believe that life leads to education. Mark Twain once said "I never let school interfere with my education." I like that! I don't want the "school" to ever interfere with the children's education. They learn so much through life here in our home.
We started our formal learning on Monday. We started the actual worksheets. The children are having a blast.
For Melodey and Tylor I am still using Sing Spell Read and Write, which I love! Anything that involves music and learning is for this momma! Alex on the other hand is reading at such a high level for his age, I am having him read the Konos books, his own reading book and doing Write Source grammar. We also got Write Shop for all 3. I had not used it before, but after only 2 days, I love it!
We are using Saxon math, and even though it does have some "busy work," we only do as much as needed to learn the concepts. I hate "busy work!" I always have, blame that on a classroom of 36 children for 13 years! The kids really like the Saxon math, and were able to understand the concepts with little to no issues. I feel bad for Alex though, I have switched his math on him since kindergarten. We did Shiller Math, which I did NOT like at all, Everyday math, which was ok, but more of a classroom math program, and then Saxon for 2nd grade, and also now in 3rd grade. He likes it better, I like it better and we don't have the stress and tears that the other math programs were leading to.
We are doing Science though Konos, but also we got a magnet kit, bubble kit and sound kit from Delta learning. I love these little kits. They are science in a nut shell kits and are perfect for us. They are made for 1-3 kids :o)which is what we have :o)
History, Bible, Art, Music and PE are also done through Konos, which is one reason I love it! Everything that we are learning somehow connects and I love that concept.
We have a lot of field trips planned for the year, a Zoo membership that expires in July of 2010, and I am hoping to help organize some great events with our homeschool group.
We are off to a stellar year :o) Expect to see lots of pictures and hear lots of stories!
Blessings to your school year!
