Attention and Ear Parts :)

"My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings." Proverbs 4:20

As always we have Sing Spell Read Write for Phonics, Their choice reading books, our family reading book, Saxon Math, Travel the Great States books, and this week is also Drug awareness week :)

Listen to several Classical pieces this week - Beethoven, Ravel, Sibelius and Tschaikowsky

Monday:
Read the story of Samuel and Dramatize it.
Play "Whisper Me"

Tuesday:
Read and retell the story of Mary and Martha.
Dictionary work - Concentrate
What job require concentration?
Play "Concentration" or "Memory"
Match the adjective around the house

Wednesday:
Make a traffic light and traffic signs out of cardboard

Thursday:
How did Christ show His attention to God's word?
Look at advertising for color, movement, lights, sounds, unusual, ect.

Friday:
Set up an ear to move through and talk about all the parts of the ear.
Talk about sign Language and learn some signs
Have the children demonstrate how many different ways they can make sound.
If sunny - have a picnic at the park and close your eyes and identify sounds, are they loud or soft?
Play "Telephone"
Play "Hokey Pokey"
Play "Simon Says"
Tell the story of Helen Keller

Military Lessons

Besides our normal reading, writing, phonics and math I love this Konos program :) We are still on Obedience :) and for several more weeks as well. This week we are learning all about Military. The kids will love this. With so many in our family that are/were in the military, I think they will really enjoy learning about the different military groups. Together the children will hear different stories of past Military Heroes and will memorize their Bible verses.

Monday Unit Lessons:
Vocabulary
Learning about the Department of Defense

Tuesday Unit Lessons:
Study the varieties of uniforms in the armed forces. Alike, Different...
Dress up like a soldier (Alex will love this one)
Learn the insignias. Trace/ draw them.
Camouflage an old shirt or pants with green and brown splotches of paint.

Wednesday Unit Lessons:
Map the different Military academies on a map
Map overseas bases on world map
Prepare for barracks inspections - standards for military solders
Learn military time
Practice marching drills

Thursday Unit Lessons:
Listen to marches on CD
Identify the instruments in the military marching bands
Talk about the military marching band instruments and what families they belong
What were some of the original instruments used?

Friday Unit Lessons:
Learn the ranks and courtesies to officers
